Vintage cut crystal martini or champagne glasses with an hourglass stem and flared rim. The craftsmanship is exquisite as the glasses are both hand blown and cut, The bowl and the stem are one piece of glass, with the base attached. The stem is created with an elongated teardrop pattern. The thumb print design under the bowl combined with the cuts to the stem create a beautiful prism of small diamonds inside the glass which is reflected into your beverage.
The bowl of the glass graduates in thickness from the rim to the base. The tall stem will help keep your hand away from the bowl if you have an interest in keeping your adult beverage cool longer but your hand can also rest really comfortably on the bowl of the glass because of the small ledge created by the thumb print cuts and top of the hourglass stem. The wide rim is perfect to get the best taste out of your gin and the flared rim will help keep it from splashing out.
From the shape of the glass and the style of the stem, we believe these glasses are circa 1950s. The glass is 5 1/2 inches tall and the stem is 2 3/4 inches tall. The rim of the bowl is 4 1/8 inches in diameter and the base is 3 1/4 inches in diameter. The glass holds 3/4 cup when filled to the rim.
CONDITION: These glasses are in excellent condition, with no chips, scratches or cracks. There are very light use marks on the inside of some of the bowls from perhaps stirring beverages. You can see them when you hold a glass up to the light but they aren’t visible in normal use. Because these are handmade, the glasses are not all exactly the same height. The greatest difference in height is 1/5 of a cm. The crystal is bright and clear and, as one of the photos show, in the right light have a bluish hue but these glasses are not blue. That blue hue does tell us, however, that the glasses likely have a lead content between 5-15%.
These make a unique one-of-a-kind gift or addition to your barware collection. They can be used as champagne coupes or as martini glasses. They’re also beautiful just sitting on your shelf waiting to be used.
